January

Our aims are that by January Tom and I will have completed our first advert and will have started/Nearly finished advert two allowing the end of January and whole of February to complete advert three which we feel will take the longest to film and edit.

We have decided to re-shoot a few of the shots for advert one and we feel advert two will take three or four shoots to get the correct type of shots to make the advert.

I will post our new shooting schedule when we have created it.

At the current time I am feeling quite confident that we will finish our adverts on time and that they will be of good quality.

Summary So Far

We started this project in September and I feel like Tom and I wasted three months before we actually started. Our problem was that we had created storyboards for adverts that we were never going to be able to complete. However when we were drawing up the storyboards we didn't think they would be that impossible. As a result from trying to arrange several things for the same day it just proved impossible and therefore we had to decide that we would never complete the adverts in time if at all. As a result we decided to create new storyboards (which I will be putting up on the blog once my scanner is returned next week) and therefore create new adverts which will be as effective but easier to film and edit and consequently complete.

Due to the problem's above we were unable to meet the deadlines and fortunately Mr Michie was very understanding about this. I feel we will complete the adverts by the end of February, we are aiming to complete it before so if need be we can improve small bits and pieces so that our adverts are as effective as possible.

I feel we have faced a few issues and we have overcome them well (issues in first paragraph) and consequently because of the issues and having to re-storyboard we are more determined to get our adverts completed as we feel we are behind some other groups.

Editing

On Wednesday last week we began editing, we have spent a few hours editing within the week and we are starting to see what our first advert will look like. The outline is looking positive and we only need to re-shoot a few shots. We have input some music and we feel that the advert is starting to flow positively.

We need to shoot the end of the race and we feel advert one will be very close to being completed. Over the christmas period we are planning on going out and filming and for this I have booked out a mac book so that I will be able to edit the footage we have gotten from this.

Filming

Yesterday (10.12.2008) Tom and I started filming for our first advert. We started filming the Mecurial Advert VI, which involves a footballer and a car having a race, the result of this will determine what is faster the boot or the car. To develop meaning and understanding that it is infact the boot that we are advertising we have decided to use a range of close up's and eventually the footballer wins, showing that with these boots the audience will become faster by wearing them.

Problems

The main problem was that the storyboards were too complicated. There were too many things we had to do, and arrange. Trying to get them done as well as getting other school work done was just too hard. Filming an actual football match was too hard to implement into the adverts because of the weather at the current time as well as the equipment it just proved impossible.

Another factor which didn't help was also due to the weather, as due to continous rain many football matches which we had planned to go and film at were postponed and this delayed our filming for just over a month as there were no games which we could attend. This became extremely frustrating and therefore we decided to re-storyboard, come up with simpler ideas which we didn't rely on many people to complete and therefore spend more time on the quality of the shots rather than the quantity.

Tom and I have checked new locations and we are feeling very confident that we can infact complete these new ideas.

Tuesday the 10th

Today I am going to ask my teacher for more time, as Tom and I have decided to change our focus. Instead of doing our original ideas, we have decided to slightly change focus. The original ideas would have taken too long so at the current time, I am re-storyboarding and we are planning to film at 'goals' on sunday for Advert two, Advert one is very simple, but we feel it is a very simple way to get people to enjoy the game. It is still involving football, and Nike. So our research is still valid. I have found the perfect sound for one of the adverts best suited and this is from the football game 'V Ronaldo Football'.

I will be posting the new storyboards up soon with an explanation of what the entail.

Re-storyboarding

At the end of last week Tom and I had to make a choice. Whether to carry on filming and hope to come out with some footage we could use, or whether to re-storyboard and come up with some new ideas which will be easier to complete.
These ideas should be easier to complete but with a new focus.

Saturday 15th Of November

Again a Chalfont St Peter game was called off once I had travelled for two hours. This is getting very very very frustrating. But I'm determined that in the end it will be worth it. Although I have looked in to filming at an indoor game on synthetic grass. Only if we have nothing in the next few weeks will that happen.

Wednesday 12th Of November

Once more a Chalfont St Peter game was called off. This is getting frustrating. But I'm sure in the end it will be worth it...

This Week

This week we attempted to go filming three times. This included travelling with the Chalfont St Peter first team for three hours just for the game to be called off. All three games were called off but hopefully tomorrows FA VASE game will not be called off and I will be able to go down and film at that game.

Half Term

During half term I was planning on filming, during three matches of Chalfont St Peter AFC first team. These games were on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Tuesday's game, it snowed and rained heavily, therefore I decided against filming as the camera could get damaged. Thursday's game was postponed due to the weather and the state of the pitch and Saturday's game was also called off. As a result, I was unable to film anything which was extremely frustrating.

Fortunately, I have been able to arrange a few matches for the reserves and first team, for which I can film. As a result I will be able to gain alot of footage from these games which I will be able to incorporate into the adverts. I.e. The close ups of goal kicks and dribbling past players.

First bit of filming

On thursday the 9th of October, we decided to have a go at our first bit of filming, it was going to be rough but it was just to gain an idea of how and what our advert could look like. We filmed some close up's as well as a few long shots. We did this in about thirty minutes of our spare time.
We were happy with what we came up with and we now feel positive of how our Advert will look.

Storyboarding

I am now onto my fourth draft of storyboards and I now feel confident that the ideas are correct and relate to our productand brand.
We decided to put the style of football boot into three categories: Heritage, Speed and Power.
We did this because we felt it was the best way as well as giving the boot an individual feel, as well as allowing the potential buyers to put themselves into one category or another. As a result this gives us the opportunity to affect a wider audience and consequently this means more sales.

The idea for Heritage came from the opening of Troy. I got the idea to watch troy after researching and finding out that Nike was the goddess of victory in greek mythology, as a result this lead me to watch Troy, allowing me to associate the product with the greek mythology, being that it's Heritage.

The idea for power was originally based around Wayne Rooney's goal against Newcastle, http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=wayne+rooney+vs+newcastle&hl=en&emb=0&aq=0&oq=wayne+rooney+vs+#q=wayne%20rooney%20vs%20newcastle&hl=en&emb=0

Due to not being able to use more than four or five shots from professional cameras, this lead me to come up with a similar idea but instead of doing a comparison, it would just be the player with the boots. As a result showing the power of the players.

The third story board is all about speed, the pace of the advert will be fast to highlight the speed aspect of the advert, with fast clips of players dribbling and moving the ball quickly.

As of yet I have spent over fifteen hours storyboarding and I still have two storyboards to completely finish. I estimate this will take me another five hours at least.

Psychographics

The mise-en-scene of the original idea is that the 'hunk' will be surrounded by sunlight, and blue skies, as he is spraying himself with the devidoff cool water.
This is followed by him diving into the blue water, which symbolises the 'cool water'.
The pool will be surrounded by white tiles, conoting the good look of the company.
The following shot will be of the 'hunk' swimming under water, showing the blue water, further showing the audience, the look of the cool water is a direct audience association with the product.
The 'hunk' will then pull himself out of the water and the water will drip off him. Followed by women wearing green (connoting money) to drop what they are doing and drift over to where he is, with the blue water behind him, showing the brand, and him wearing white shorts, connoting the good brand name, with the sun behind him showing the setting of the advert on a sunny holiday destination.

Advertising through the use of psychographics

Through reading through the extract audience segmentation, I have learnt that advertising can be done through the use of a 'hierarchy' and that before one stage can be satisfied, the stage before that must be satisfied, as a result you can narrow down your target audience. This hierarchy however was built on class, in 1970 an american advertising agency came up with a new way to view their consumers; this was by personal aspirations.

However in more recent times, there have been sub-species, which have also been renamed/nicknamed, as 'yuppies', 'woopies', 'opals', 'lombards' and 'dinkys'. These represent different people, they are code words of which the companies aim, as a result it is easier to choose their chosen target market and can also choose their u.s.p (unique selling point).

I have decided to do a perfume/aftershave advert; I have chosen this because it appeals to esteem needs and/or self-actualisation. I say and/or because they are two types of appeal that can be linked together to gain a larger target audience. Through using an image of a famous 'hunk', I will be able to advertise the product to show perfection or as close to perfection as possible; the choice of 'hunk' depends on the demographics and chosen target audience as some may have a different idea as to whom the perfect 'hunk' is. As a result the target audience will feel that by using the product then they are closer to perfection, as a result attracting the opposite sex (or if they swing that way, the same sex).

The mise-en-scene will be someone taking their top off slowly; followed by that person diving into the water, end shot, pulling themselves out of the water ... Davidoff Cool Water

Music

Today and the last few days I have been looking at music, I have decided to do nike adverts, and specialise in different types of boots that can be worn. The idea to have quick paced adverts with lots of shots (different) of the boot, doing skills, shooting, dribbling etc. and then finish with a shot of the ball hitting the net, and having the nike logo appear with the slogan.

This will not be the same for all three adverts but, they will be similar, I have been looking at different music, samba, drumb n' base, garage, speed garage, rock, indie and a few others and I have narrowed it down to drum n' base and samba, but I will get together with my group partner and we shall decide

Possible music for advert

The Advertising Handbook

I finished reading the advertising handbook finally, after borrowing it about a week and a bit ago, I learnt that there are a variety of ways to advertise, but you must always advertise to your marketing limit. From this I mean that to not advertise to heavily, so that the product runs out and that more people want it than they can produce. Depending which product I choose to advertise then I can decide how to advertise. If i choose a rare product then, the ideology would be to advertise to a small audience, to keep the product rare, like it is only for a specific social section or other target audience.

Work So Far

Since opening up the blog, I have done alot of research, I have been reading up on advertising and marketing strategies as well as reading some advertising books. I have even borrowed a flash MX book, so if we infact choose to use flash, hopefully I will be able to use it.

We have been set the task to produce a heinz baked beans ad, and so far I have come up with a few ideas, the only problem is, where i'm going to get the people to act for me from, and how long the ad will actually be.

I have been watching lots of adverts, especially adverts involving sports to see what their usp is (unique selling point) and what the adverts involved. From this I am gradually getting more inspired and coming up with more original ideas.

The New Blog, For A New Year

This blog is to input ideas as well as work for the new year, we will be putting our initial ideas, and final ideas and anything in between onto here for each other to read as well as for anyone else to read. This will also be used to show the work we put in as well as the research we do. From this we will show a reference as well as gain feedback from others on what to read and how to improve our work.

We can get ideas from similar groups and therefore we can improve our ideas. This will also be used to show our teacher the work we are doing and this will act as a day to day diary showing how much work we did and when.

I am quite looking forward to having the chance to be in charge of making my own product, and having more opportunities to be creative. I am looking forward to the challenge of making something professional.
